Lawrence “JR” Beauchamp Jr.

FLAT ROCK - Lawrence "JR" Beauchamp Jr., 83, of Flat Rock passed away on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba.

Lawrence was born on Feb. 13, 1929, in Milwaukee, the son of Lawrence and Esther (Eagle) Beauchamp Sr. He served his country proudly in the United States Army while stationed in Germany from 1951 to 1953. Lawrence was united in marriage to Shirley Ann MaKosky on June 26, 1953, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Flat Rock. They made their home in Flat Rock where they raised their five daughters. Lawrence worked at Bird's Eye Veneer Plant, Chicago Northwestern Railroad and Harnishfeger Crane Plant until they closed and moved. He also took a job at the State Fair Grounds for many years.

He was a lifelong member of Am Vets Post 123 and a past Post Commander. Lawrence and Shirley enjoyed pitching horseshoes, bowling, square dancing, snowmobiling and were very active in watching the Detroit Red Wings and Green Bay Packers on TV.

Lawrence is survived by three daughters, Ellen (Donald) Nickell, Joan (James) Kroll and Sara Beauchamp (Joseph Kelly); son-in-law, Anthony "Tony" Stropich; six grandchildren, Missy (Andy) Reinhart, Cory Kroll, Richard (Julie) Nickell, Sherri (fiance Kevin Rauch) Kroll, Jena (fiance Travis Danielczak) Stropich and Vince Stropich; seven great grandchildren, Blaine, Braden, Breleigh, Madison, Austin, Hunter and Joshua; four brothers, Ray (Sally), Ken (Louise), Carl (Sharon) and Frank (Kathy); two sisters-in-law, Noella MaKosky and Emily Sacheck; a brother-in-law, Charles (Marcy) McKosky and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, two daughters, Cindy and Jean, his parents and a brother, Norbert.

The family will receive friends and family on Monday, Feb. 11 from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Flat Rock. Military Honors will be presented by the Delta County Veterans Council at 5:30 p.m. at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 6 p.m. at the church with Rev. Fr. Jose Maramattam officiating.

A luncheon will be served in the Father Matt hall immediately following services. Lawrence will be laid to rest, next to his wife, in the Escanaba Township Cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions in Lawrence's name may be directed to Bishop Noa Home Renovation Project.

The Beauchamp family is being assisted by the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba.
