Carter VanBrocklin, a student in Kacie Cartwright's fourth-grade class at James T. Jones Elementary School, presents a check for $150 to Paula Ackerman of the Upper Peninsula Diabetes Outreach Network. This money was collected by students during the Change Challenge held in November during Diabetes Awareness Month. The students in Cartwright's class challenged all the students at Jones School to change their risks for diabetes by promoting healthy lifestyle habits. Students participated by pitching the pop, turning off the TV and other screen devices, eating five servings of fruit/vegetables each day and including 60 minutes or more of physical activity daily. The "change" collected from each class was given to UPDON and used for new playground items.
