ESCANABA - An Escanaba man accused of robbing a local gas station attendant at knifepoint last month was recently bound over from Delta County District Court to circuit court.
Marc Allen Grove, 19, was arrested on Jan. 20 following investigation into a robbery at the Admiral gas station at 720 N. Lincoln Road at 7:45 a.m. He remains lodged in the county jail in lieu of a cash bond originally set at $52,000 and later increased to $150,000.
Masked and armed with a large hunting knife, Grove allegedly demanded money from the female clerk on duty that morning. After receiving cash, he fled on foot.
Escanaba Public Safety officers and a police dog tracked him to a residence on the north side of town where he was arrested along with two others.
Grove is charged with one count of armed robbery, which is a life felony. He is also charged with controlled substance - possession of the analogue buprenorphine hydrochloride. The drug count is a felony with a maximum sentence of two years in prison and a $2,000 fine.
Co-defendant Courtney Marie Gartland, 21, of Escanaba, is charged with one count of making a false statement to police investigating a serious felony. The charge carries a maximum sentencing of four years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Gartland was lodged in the county jail and later released after posting a $10,000 surety bond. She waived her right to have a preliminary examination within 14 days. Her preliminary hearing has yet to be scheduled in district court.
A third suspect was arrested at the residence but no charges have been authorized.
