There may be a new No. 1 in the girls Class A-B-C poll next week. The Marquette Redettes hung on to the top spot for the fifth week in a row but their reign will likely come to an end after Monday night's defeat at the hands of No. 2 Houghton.
The Gremlins (14-1), by virtue of a balanced scoring effort dethroned the Redettes (12-2) 56-47.
The fifth-ranked Negaunee Miners (11-3) hung around in the poll despite losing twice last week. The Miners dropped games against Marquette and Norway (8-6). Kingsford entered the poll at No. 4 after knocking off Forest Park (14-1), ranked No. 3 in Class D, from the ranks of the unbeaten.
Finally, No. 3 Calumet (11-2) capitalized, moving up from No. 4.
Kingsford will travel to Marquette Thursday night.
Forest Park traded places with No. 2 Superior Central (15-0) after suffering its first loss. The rest of the Class D girls poll remained unchanged. The five ranked Class D girls' teams appear to be the strength of the Upper Peninsula with the top four teams also being ranked at the state level. No. 5 Bark River-Harris received 12 votes in the AP poll.
