Daily Press

ESCANABA - Bonnie Lee Evans, 74, of Escanaba, was Promoted To Glory after a brief and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family singing her into Heaven, on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013. She was born Bonnie Lee Polmateer on Feb. 23, 1938, in Escanaba, the daughter of Earl and Tillie Polmateer. She was born and raised in Escanaba and was mostly known for being an avid member of The Salvation Army along with her amazing baking skills.

One of Bonnie's greatest joys was sitting around a campfire singing old camp songs and telling "remember when" stories. Being a member of The Salvation Army she wore many hats; including string band leader, secretary, Woman's Ministries chaplain, pasty maker, pianist, bell ringer, Caring Ministries, and most importantly prayer warrior. The apple of Bonnie's eyes were all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren - from watching sporting events to school programs and teaching them how to play ukuleles to baking their first loaf of cinnamon bread. Bonnie's golden rule was J.O.Y. - Jesus First, Yourself Last, and Others In Between and never hesitated to voice that.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her mother, Tillie Polmateer, and her father, Earl Polmateer.
