ESCANABA - Erin Mattson shined for the Escanaba gymnasts Saturday, taking top honors in all-around competition with 33.05 points in the Escanaba Elks Invitational.
Mattson shared the runner-up spot with Rhinelander's Elle Spiegelhoff on the uneven bars with 8.1 points and tied for fifth with Marquette's Avery Rochester in vault (8.3) and Rhinelander's Megan Thorton on balance beam (8.4).
"I was very excited for Erin when she won first place in all-around," said Escanaba coach Theresa Pascoe. "Competing with teams like Antigo and Rhinelander, I wasn't sure how she would fare, but Erin had very strong performances in all four events. This was her highest all-around score so far this year."
