ESCANABA - Some 10 years ago, the Fisherman's Landing Church was established in Escanaba. Having served as pastor in southern as well in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, founder Rev. Mike Engelsman and his wife, Pamela, had a special interest in reaching people in the area who have an interest in fishing and hunting.
The congregation grew and soon purchased Saint Pat's Catholic Church where the church held worship services. Renovations were made in the church's basement and walls were decorated with an assortment of hunting trophies from far and abroad.
However, through some tumultuously times, the congregation was minimized and worship services were moved to the Escanaba Civic Center. Pastor Mike was forced to seek other employment possibilities and he became a well-liked sales-person at a Riverside Toyota dealer.
The congregation of Fisherman’s Landing Church in Escanaba has appointed Rev. Bo Lange to serve as its interim pastor following the death of former pastor and church founder, Mike Englesman. Through his strong Christian testimony and excitement for God he had, during the last two years, been able to reach many friends to the Christian faith. When living in Escanaba Pastor Mike was also the Chaplain of the Gladstone State Police Post where his nickname was "Chappy."
Tragically, Reverend Mike died suddenly in late November and the communities he had served gathered at his funeral. The New Life Church in Escanaba was filled with people from all walks of life and impressive Michigan State Police Troopers were standing guard at his coffin and a community was able to say "good bye" to a good man in a beautiful celebration. He is missed by many people.
The people of the Fisherman's Landing Church are still grieving the loss of their beloved Pastor Mike, but have now decided continue its ministry. They recently asked Rev. Bo Lange of Escanaba to be its interim pastor.
