ESCANABA - An Escanaba man, accused of robbing a local gas station attendant at knifepoint this past weekend, was arraigned in Delta County District Court on Tuesday. A second person was also arraigned in connection with the case.

Marc Allen Grove, 19, of 1316 N. 16th St., Escanaba, was arrested for armed robbery and possession of a controlled substance on Sunday. Escanaba Public Safety officers and a police dog tracked him to a residence on the north side of town.

Grove allegedly entered the Admiral gas station at 720 N. Lincoln Road around 7:45 a.m. when he brandished a large hunting knife and demanded money from the clerk. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the masked subject fled on foot, according to police.

During Grove's arraignment, District Court Judge Glenn Pearson said the felony complaint alleges the defendant possessed a knife as a weapon and forced violence against a person to steal money.

After Grove was arrested on Sunday, police searched the home where they confiscated evidence relating to the robbery investigation. Two other residents inside the home were also arrested.

Courtney Marie Gartland, 21, of 1316 N. 16th St., Escanaba, was arraigned Tuesday on one count of making a false statement to police investigating a serious felony. The charge carries a maximum sentencing of four years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Gartland's bond was set at $10,000 cash. Her preliminary examination is scheduled for Jan. 31 in district court.

Grove's is also scheduled for a preliminary hearing in district court on Jan. 31. Armed robbery carries a maximum punishment of life in prison. Possession of a controlled substance carries a maximum sentencing of two years in prison and a $2,000 fine. His bond was set at $52,000 cash.

Both Grove and Gartland were lodged in the county jail. A third suspect - a 20-year-old Escanaba man - was also arrested at the home and lodged in jail in connection with the case. Officials are not releasing his name pending his arraignment.
