ESCANABA TOWNSHIP - Investigation continues into a two-vehicle accident that killed a 19-year-old Cornell male Tuesday morning in Escanaba Township, according to the Delta County Sheriff's Department.

A pickup truck, southbound on County Road 426, struck the back end of an unoccupied pickup truck which had stalled on part of the roadway, said deputies. The accident occurred at 8:45 a.m. about six miles south of Cornell.

The southbound truck was driven by a 47-year-old male who appeared to have failed to see the parked vehicle in the roadway, according to a news release from the sheriff's department. A 19-year-old passenger was killed from the impact of the crash. There were no other persons in the vehicle besides the driver and the passenger.

Traffic along the route was detoured while emergency personnel responded to the accident scene.

Assisting deputies were Rampart Emergency Medical Services, Escanaba Township Fire Department and Michigan State Police.
