The youngsters in the third-grade class of Debra Casey at Holy Name School in Escanaba are all smiles as they show off their brand new Webster dictionaries they received from the Escanaba Elks Lodge 354. This is the second consecutive year that the Elks have distributed dictionaries to third-grade students in each elementary school in Delta County. On hand for the presentation are: standing in back from left, Bill LaMarch, coordinator of the Dictionary Program; Holy Name Principal Joseph Carlson; and Elks members, George Peterson, Dave Wilson, and Ray Gardner; and Elks Auxiliary member Jan LaMarch.
Holy Name third-grader, Braden Beauchamp lost no time in looking up some words in his new Webster dictionary.
Classmate Rory Schroeder seems pleased to learn that the Webster dictionary he was given is his to keep as he takes the time to write his name on the inside.
Students of Peggy Austin at the Jones School in Gladstone are pictured on the front cover of a folder that was presented to the Elks Lodge in appreciation for the dictionaries. In the folder are letters and drawings from each of Austin’s students expressing their thanks for the new dictionaries
