IRON MOUNTAIN - Officials are investigating a house fire that occurred early Wednesday morning in Iron Mountain, leaving one man dead.

The Iron Mountain Police Department responded to the 1200 block of South Milwaukee Avenue at approximately 3:51 a.m. CST Wednesday after a resident in the area reported a strange odor. Upon arrival, officers observed smoke coming out of the roof vents and eaves of a residence at 1232 S. Milwaukee Ave.

Initially, officers could not make entry into the residence due to the amount of smoke inside. The Iron Mountain Fire Department responded to the scene and upon entry located the body of a man.

An investigator from the Michigan State Police Fire Marshal's Office was contacted to investigate the incident.

The name of the deceased male is not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.

Iron Mountain Police and Fire departments were assisted on scene by the Kingsford Public Safety Department, Dickinson County Sheriff's Department, Beacon Ambulance and personnel from Wisconsin Electric and DTE.
