Lorraine C. VanDrese

WELLS - Lorraine C. VanDrese, 88, 6405 N. 8th St., Wells, passed away early Tuesday morning, on Jan. 8, 2013, peacefully while sleeping.

She was born on Oct. 15, 1924, in Cornell, daughter to George and Ernestine (Delvaux) Veraghen. Lorraine attended Chandler School in Cornell.

On March 30, 1940, the former Lorraine Veraghen married Gilbert VanDrese at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock.

Lorraine was a very hard worker, helping her husband on the dairy farm for 42 years. She always stayed busy; taking care of her flowers, cooking, and excelled in making wonderful desserts. She was an excellent homemaker, keeping her home immaculate. She was a very caring and compassionate person who made wonderful conversation with those who surrounded her.

A very religious person, Lorraine was a member of St. Anthony's Church. She was also a life member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Lorraine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who cherished every moment she spent with her family. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Gilbert of Wells; her children, Donna (Marvin) Nelson and Roger (Terry) VanDrese, all of Cornell, and Gary (Mary) VanDrese of Gladstone; eight grandchildren, Scott (Shannon) Maki, Rachelle Van Drese (Lucas Eichorn), Lori (Chuck) Clark, Brian (Maureen) Nelson, David (Christy) Nelson, Chris (Laura) VanDrese, Renee' (Casey) Sovey and Michelle VanDrese; 12 great-grandchildren, Ben and Erin Maki, Jocelyne VanDrese, Nicholas Sundberg, Jen (Brandon) Rodgers, Josh, Samantha and Cody Nelson, Chris, Tyler and Nathan Nelson, and Kyle Sundberg; great-great-grandson, Carter Dubord. She is also survived by her sister, Gertrude Kutches of Powers; and nieces and nephews.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Myrtle Valind, Nora Menard, Margaret Beauchamp, Walter (Sonny) Veraghen and Harold Veraghen; and great-grandson, Paul Sundberg.

Visitation will be on Friday, Jan. 11, from noon to 3:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The VWF Auxiliary will have their memorial service at 2 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 4 p.m. at St. Anthony Church in Wells with Rev. Rick Courier officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.

Burial will be in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the VanDrese family.
