2013 Bark River races move to June

January 3, 2013

BARK RIVER - Changes in the TRAXXAS/TORC Series off-road race schedule are in store for 2013, including the dates of the 38th Annual Bark River Off-Road Races.

This year's races are set for June 14-16 at the Bark River International Raceway, where they've traditionally been held during the second weekend of August.

This year's schedule has races set for Aug. 10-11 at downstate Buchanen.

Roger Charbonneau, marketing director of the Bark River Lions Club, said the race committee was offered two other weekends, June 29-30 and Aug. 17-18.

Those dates, however, were not chosen because conflicts with the LPGA tournament at Island Resort & Casino in late June and the Upper Peninsula State Fair in August.

"The biggest advantage we have is our loyal fans," said Charbonneau. "The fact we were given six months notice also helps. Plus, it has never rained on us for 37 years. We've had rain during the race weekends, but it has always rained before or after the races. We never lost any days because of the weather. The other advantage there is really no other major event in the area that weekend."

The committee hopes the races will return to the August dates in 2014 and 2015, when the event will celebrate its 40th anniversary.

The TRAXXAS/TORC Series, presented by Amsoil, kicks off its 2013 season on March 22 at Primm, Nev., and concludes Sept. 27-29 at Lancaster, Calif.
