Daily Press

GLADSTONE - A Gladstone area man has been lodged in the Delta County Jail for operating while intoxicated after crashing his vehicle into a Gladstone bar early this morning.

According to a news release from Gladstone Public Safety, officers responded to the crash at Gibby's Bar, located at 720 4th Ave. N., Gladstone, at 1 a.m.

Investigation into the incident determined a 27-year-old male, from the Gladstone area, was traveling westbound on M-35 and left the roadway, where he entered the Gibby's Bar parking lot, hit a parked and unoccupied vehicle, smashed through an outside storage shed and came to rest in the bathrooms of the bar.

None of the bar's 10 occupants were injured during the crash. The male driver was treated on-scene by Rampart EMS before being transported to the Delta County Jail where he was lodged for operating while intoxicated.

The incident remains under investigation, but police say speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

Gladstone Public Safety officers were assisted by Michigan State Police.
