CEDAR RIVER - Police continued to investigate Saturday a two-vehicle head-on traffic crash in Menominee County that killed a Stephenson woman and injured two others Friday on M-35 near Cedar River.
The Menominee County Sheriff's Office said Jill Renee Anderson, 50, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred near the intersection of Menominee County Road 551, north of J.W. Wells State Park.
Police said a minivan - driven by Margaret Marion Winter, 73, of K.I. Sawyer - struck a pickup truck driven by Anderson's husband, Jeffrey David Anderson, 52. Deputies said Winter and Jeffrey Anderson were both initially taken to Bay Area Medical Center and later transferred to St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay "for evaluation and definitive care of multiple traumatic injuries."
Police said both of the injured were in fair condition.
The crash was reported at 5:13 p.m. CST Friday. According to police, light snow began falling after the accident occurred.
M-35 was shut down for nearly four hours following the accident, during extrication and investigation efforts. Accident investigators and reconstructionists from the Michigan State Police Gladstone post were assisting deputies in their probe of the cause of the crash.
Vehicles were detoured around the crash scene via local roadways. However, about 60 semi tractor-trailer trucks were unable to turn around and remained on the roadway until the highway was reopened.
