Our Christmas glow

December 26, 2012

Merry Christmas!

Christmas is here again with all its trappings and traditions reminding us of how quickly one year can lead to the next, and how important it is to cherish our traditions, both in our homes and in our town, which reflects where our hearts are, in our society.

In our small town, we can find everything we need. There are school concerts galore; church choir concerts everywhere; special traditional caroling; shopping in stores and craft sales; special foods at specialty stores; and a garlanded main street to keep spirits up, signaling that Christmas is special here.

As time goes by, in our technological society, we will have to be careful to protect our special day from outside forces trying to chip away at what we hold dear, trying to dim the glow in our "body and souls." This glow is our very own, to be shared with our family and friends. We all carry our own glow, with our own warm memories of our own Christmases, as we create new ones for our future generations. We need to carry on our traditions with our children and grandchildren, so that they too will have their own special glow of loving memories to share.

America is made up of Christmases from all over the world. Our carols come from different countries, dinners are ethnic; churches are ethnic, each bringing their own traditions to their special services. We have to appreciate, cherish and protect what we have in our towns and in our country. Christmas is bigger than us. We need apologize to no one. We need to be proud of what we have and insist that our leaders share our values. We Americans love what we have.

Our Christmas glow will be seen all around the world as a symbol of hope and love for everyone.

This glow of Christmas is the heart of our nation. Now, more than ever, we need to cherish and protect it!
