EDITOR:
A recent letter writer expressed concerns about groundwater as a result of construction of American Transmission Co.'s proposed Chandler-Old Mead Road transmission line project. I'd like this opportunity to provide correct information and assure area residents that we will comply with all appropriate environmental guidelines and construction practices.
First, we do not anticipate any blasting in connection with construction of this transmission line.
Second, the holes will range from 10 to 15 feet deep for the poles that will be "in line;" the holes for corner structures will be about 20 feet deep. The in-line poles will be embedded in the ground, and the corner structures will be bolted on to concrete foundations about seven feet in diameter.
Third, we have built more than 500 miles of new transmission lines since 2001, and our drilling and construction contractors have not experienced the type of issues described by the letter writer.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide information on this project.
