First-grade students of Paulette Larson at Cameron Elementary School in Gladstone, pictured above, took some time recently to help spread the spirit of the season. The students created and collected 500 cards to send to serving and recovering service members for Christmas. The cards were sent to the American Red Cross for distribution through the Holiday Mail for Heroes program.
The first-grade students of Betsy VanDamme at St. Francis de Sales Catholic School, at left, hold up their filled shoeboxes, to show they did their part to support “Operation Christmas Child,” an organization that distributes the shoeboxes filled with toys, school supplies and other gifts to children in need around the world. St. Francis de Sales has participated in the program for several years.
