Residents help brighten holidays

December 22, 2012
Daily Press

This week's bouquets go to:

From the U.P. Steam and Gas Engine Association:

"We would like to thank our wonderful community for their generous donations of food and toys at the recent Christmas in the Village event. Over a ton of food was donated to the Seventh Day Adventise Food Pantry and the toys were taken to the Salvation Army for distribution. We would also like to thank all of our members and volunteers for making this such a wonderful event."

From Public Health, Delta and Menominee Counties:

"We would like to send a bouquet of thanks to Gladstone Super Valu, Elmer's County Market and Super One Foods for partnering with us to serve mocktails in their stores on Dec. 6-8 to promote our message: Provide an Alternative to Alcohol at Holiday Celebrations. Also, thank you to the Daily Press for their support in this annual effort. Our appreciation goes out to those who helped staff the booth from the S.A.V.E. Council (Substance Abuse & Violence Education).

From Myron Van Effen of Escanaba:

"I would like to thank USW local 2-21 committee and their spouses for the Christmas party they put on for the members' families last Saturday. It was a real holiday treat. Especially for the kids. Too bad some of our legislators from Lansing couldn't have been there. They would have seen what unions are truly all about."

Each Saturday the Daily Press salutes individuals and groups from our area who have had a very positive impact on the way we live.

We identify our bouquet recipients in one of two ways: from Daily Press news pages and from nominations sent in by our readers.

Mail us a postcard or letter identifying your nomination and putting into detail what they've done. Include your name, address, and phone number. Send nominations to Saturday Bouquets, The Daily Press, 600 Ludington Street, Escanaba, MI 49829.

They may also be sent to us by going to our Web site, www.dailypress.net, and clicking on the submit news button. Once there, click on "Bouquets" and follow the simple instructions.
