MARQUETTE - Deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff's Office rescued a woman who had flipped and submerged her vehicle in a Sands Township creek early Sunday morning.

Cora L. Longtine, 34, of Negaunee, was westbound on County Road 480 just east of Seney Road when she apparently lost control of her 2004 Honda CRV SUV. The vehicle left the right side of the roadway and began to roll. It came to rest on its roof, submerged in a creek.

Other motorists attempted to free Longtine from the vehicle but were unsuccessful. When officers arrived on scene Longtine, the sole occupant of the SUV was freed from the passenger side of the submerged vehicle.

Assisting at the scene were Marquette City Police, Chocolay Township Police, Marquette County Rescue 131, Negaunee Township Fire, and divers from the Marquette County Sheriff's Office.

Longtine was transported to Marquette General Health System by Bell Memorial EMS. She was treated for minor injuries and released. The crash remains under investigation and it is unknown if alcohol was a factor.
