No one injured in fire

Early morning blaze reported at Esky home

ESCANABA - Escanaba Public Safety said no one was injured during an early morning house fire that broke out just before 1:30 a.m. today in Escanaba.

The fire was reported at 1:29 a.m. at a home located at 1019 Washington Ave. Police say the homeowner, whose identity was unavailable as of press time, reported to police that a couch inside the home caught on fire, which extended to the entire room.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, fire was rolling within the first floor of the structure.

Two adult occupants and a dog were able to escape from the fire without injury. Firefighters battled the blaze for approximately 30 minutes before getting it under control. Public Safety was able to save the structure and prevent any additional fire spread. The home sustained fire, smoke and water damage. Police said the displaced family is staying with relatives.

No further details were available this morning.

Assisting Public Safety at the scene were the Delta County Sheriff's Department and Rampart EMS.
