Allen ‘Todd’ Newman

GLADSTONE - Allen "Todd" Newman, 78, of 2804 Gladstone Ave. in Gladstone, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis. surrounded by his loving family. He was born Nov. 17, 1934, in Leona, Wis., and was the son of Edgar and Grace "Mickey" (Flannery) Newman.

Todd graduated from Gladstone High School in 1952 and married the former Shirley Jean Brandl on March 14, 1953, in Gladstone. Todd and Shirley moved to Streator, Ill., were he worked on his uncle's farm as a farm hand until returning to Gladstone in 1955 when he went to work at Mead Paper Mill. In 1966 he took a position with Kimberly Clark Paper division in Redding, Calif. On July 3, 1971, he returned to Delta County and took a job as a laborer with the city of Escanaba. On April 24, 1972, he became a full time city employee with the Escanaba Public Works Department, retiring as the superintendent of the department on March 28, 1997. At that time he returned to the Newman family home in Gladstone.

Todd loved hunting, fishing, bowling and woodworking. He was a member of the Gladstone Yacht Club.

Allen "Todd" Newman is survived by his son, Dennis Newman of Gladstone; daughters, Terri "Newman" (Scott) Carlson of Wells, Tammy (Elden) Simons of Gladstone; grandchildren, Kelly, Jeana, Josh; great-grandchildren, Jill, McKenzie, Caidence, Annalese, Bryce, and Gabe; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Shirley on Sept. 4, 2011; son, Todd on Aug. 17, 1995; and brothers, Mike and Lyle Newman.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Allen "Todd" Newman will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Margery Host officiating. Burial will take place in the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.
