ESCANABA - The liquid melodies and mellow tones of classical guitar music seem made for the holiday season and it can be enjoyed at the Bonifas Arts Center on Thursday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m., when Serbian guitarist and composer Nemanja Bogunovic presents his Upper Peninsula debut.
"Mitzi and Tom Brayak heard him play when they were in Europe," said Beth Ann Fudala, Special Events Director for the Arts Center. "She came in and raved about the music. We are delighted to be able to have him present a concert here."
A guitarist since the age of seven, Bogunovic graduated from the Conservatory of Music in Belgrade, and was appointed Art Director of the Prince Tomislav Foundation by Serbian Princess Linda Karageorgevich. He has appeared in the United States and Europe.
Bogunovic's compositions are widely played in Europe and world wide. He has also transcribed many works in the classical literature.
"It's going to be a great concert," Fudala said. "I wish everyone could hear him he's wonderful."
Bogunovic may be heard on his website, nemanjabogunovic.com.
Tickets for the evening are $12 and $5 for students. They are available online at bonifasarts.org, or at the Center at 700 1st Avenue South during open hours of Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., or by calling 786-3833.
"Bring a friend," Fudala said. "This will be a perfect treat for yourself during the busy holiday season."
