RAPID RIVER - Irene Eagle celebrated her 90th birthday with a party hosted by her family and friends. She was born, Oct. 20, 1922.
Irene married Ralph Eagle in 1938 and the couple became parents of eight children, Richard (Judy) Eagle, Patricia (Dwain) Valiquette, the late Judy (Cal) Moreau, Barbara Harris, David (Doris) Eagle, Jean Johnson, Susan (Jerry) Gundion, and Alice Eagle.
They also have 35 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
She worked for the U.S. Postal Service and was a nurse's aid at OSF St. Francis Hospital, and Ojas and Rabitoy's Nursing Homes. She also worked as a seamstress for a local bridal shop.
Irene was a long-time PTO and 4-H leader. Her hobbies include sewing, knitting, crocheting, playing cards, and, according to her family, she is the best bread maker and cook in town.
After retiring in the 1970s, she and Ralph traveled to Florida during the winters for 21 years. She is currently living at the Elders Inn in Rapid River.
