Phyllis Joy Beaudry

MANISTIQUE - Phyllis Joy Beaudry, 84, lifelong resident of Manistique, passed away Nov. 16, 2012, on Drummond Island surrounded by loving family. She moved to the island during her illness to be cared for by her daughter Debra. Phyllis was born Dec. 5, 1927, in Manistique to Bernard and Ethel (Rice) Nelson. She attended Manistique High School.

On Dec. 15, 1945, she married Jerome L. Beaudry at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Manistique. He preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 1981.

As a waitress, Phyllis worked at a number of establishments including Barney's Grill, Liberty Cafe, Surf Restaurant, The Eat Shop, Indian Lake Golf and Country Club, and Myra's Kitchen. Earlier she worked at a broom factory and also spent three seasons on one of the Great Lakes freighters as a cook's helper to her father the head cook.

She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church of Manistique and a member of the Elks Club, and Indian Lake Golf and Country Club. Phyllis was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and Detroit Tigers fan and rarely missed a game on television. She was a talented knitter and crocheter and enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino, golfing, bowling, traveling and baking. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren most of all. You could see the joy and the twinkle in her eyes even in quiet moments with them.

Phyllis is survived by her son, Bernie (Cindy) Beaudry of Shoreview, Minn.; daughters, Cheryl (Tom) Misiano of East Tawas, Mich., and Debra (Ben) Phillips of Drummond Island, Mich.; grandchildren, Jennifer (Narla Nance) Misiano, Thomas (Brandi) Misiano III, Brigitte (Jim) Koran, Eric (Kelli) Beaudry, DJ (Amber) Phillips, and Sarah Phillips; great-grandchildren, Dakota and Dylan Nance, Alena and Evan Koran, Jaden Phillips and Anna Harris, Destiny and Emma Phillips, Ami, Hana, and Ian Wilson. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter, Phyllis Rose; brothers, Robert, Eldon, Fred and Donald Nelson; sisters, Nellie Andersen, Edith Hall, Grace Powell and Darlene Sangraw.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, at St. Francis De Sales Church in Manistique. Father Glenn Theoret will be conducting the service. Her family will welcome friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the mass.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Manistique.
