Good people live in the U.P.

Friday night, Nov. 30, 2012, at approximately 5:55 p.m. I got my buck - an 11 point monster with my Chevy S10 Blazer just east of the Gulliver Mobil Station. My vehicle was immediately incapacitated and when I came to a final stop I had gone from the west bound lane to the right-of-way in the east bound lane. My battery was shorted and therefore, I had no hazard lights.

Chivalry is not dead in the Gulliver/Manistique area! Thank you to the ladies in the car that stopped to check on us and brought back flares.

Thank you to all that stopped to help of which there were many. And, especially thank you to Patti Newby from the Eva Burrell Animal Shelter who pulled up in front of my vehicle as the flares sputtered out and applied her hazard lights to alert on-coming traffic. She identified herself as an EMT and offered any assistance that was required. She was not going to leave us until help arrived or she wasn't needed any more.

My Mom and I greatly appreciate the gentle handling and assurances from Patti and Midnight, her rescue dog.

I didn't see the horns on the buck as I didn't want to leave my Mom to go up the highway to where it had landed on the side of the road.

To who took possession of the buck, please, if you have pictures of the rack, could you email me a copy at or send to Connie Rademacher, 3976 Hwy. M-35, Escanaba MI 49829. It seems to be a regret that I didn't see them.

Again, thanks to all that helped. Good people live in the U.P.!

Connie Rademacher
