ESCANABA - John H. Dion Jr., 71, 4645 17th Rd, Escanaba, passed away on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at his home from congestive heart failure.
He was born on Jan. 19, 1941, in Chicago, Ill., son of John and Barbara (Ammel) Dion Sr. John attended Blue Island High School in Chicago. In his teenage years, John's family moved to Escanaba.
On May 14, 1994, John married the former Frances "Fran" Stimac in Escanaba.

John was employed at Harnischfeger as a welder until their closure. He then worked at Bink's Coca-Cola as a route salesman until his retirement in 2000.
He was a prior member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church. John was a member of the Elks Lodge 354 and was honored as Elk of the Year in 1994. John was an outdoorsman; he loved camping, hunting and four-wheeling.
Among survivors include his wife, Fran of Escanaba; three daughters, Michelle Dion, Pam (Justin) LaVance and Denise Nelson, all of Escanaba; stepchildren, Earl (Joe) Maynard and Tammy Maynard, all of Escanaba; sisters, Mary (Andy) Smutnak of LosGatos, Calif., and Cathy (Simon) Rodriguez of Brightwood, Ore.; grandchildren, Collin and Hannah Nelson and Justin LaVance II; step-grandchildren, Christopher and Zachery Jones; brothers-in-law, Tom (Cheryl) Stemac of Trimountain, Mich., and Dave (Diana) Stemac of Alberta, Mich.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be on Friday, Dec. 7, from 4 7 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba.
The Elks memorial service will be at 6 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Rick Courier officiating.
A meal will be served following the funeral service at the Elks.
The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Dion family with arrangements.
