ESCANABA - The Bay de Noc Choral Society will present their annual Christmas concert on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. The concert will take place at Bethany Lutheran Church, 210 S. 11th Street, Escanaba.
The major work for the concert is Vivaldi's very popular "Gloria." This piece is a lot of fun to sing and a real joy to listen to. The group will also perform "Christmas Processional," "Keep the Silence," "A Musicological Journey Through the Twelve Days of Christmas," and "I'll be home for Christmas."
Joining the Choral Society for their concert will be the First Bells bell choir from First Presbyterian Church. They will accompany the group for the opening piece and will also play several of their own selections. Also performing on the concert will be Tom Knoll on the recorder.
Ann Wood is the director of the four part signing group and John Ignatowski will accompany on the organ and piano. Soloists for the concert include Mary Bastien, Katie Gravelle, Patty Kobasic, Bella McLeod, Joy Moran, Kathie Nyquist, Harold Olson, Kris Pfotenhauer, and Kathy Young.
The Choral Society presents two concerts a year to the public, one for Christmas and another in the spring. While the concerts are free to the public they do collect a free will offering to help pay for the expenses of putting on a concert.
The Choral Society also participates in the annual Community Christmas Concert: A Festival of Choirs, which will be held on Sunday, Dec. 16, this year.
Anyone who likes to sing is welcome to join the Choral Society and they are always looking for new members. For more information about the group, call Patty at 789-1590.
