ESCANABA - Rev. Michael "Chappy" Engelsman, 53, 1523 8th Ave S., Escanaba, passed away on Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at Marquette General Hospital.
He was born on April 2, 1959, in Grand Rapids, son of Dale and Loretta (Frazier) Engelsman. Mike graduated from Coopersville High School (1977), Bethany Bible College (1981) Sussex, New Brunswick, Canada.
On Aug. 18, 1979, Michael Engelsman married the former Pamala MacCallum in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Mike served as a pastor in Munising from 1981 until 1989 and in Muskegon from 1989 until 2002. He has lived in Escanaba for the past 10 years and was the pastor of the Fisherman's Landing Church beginning in 2003. For a brief time, he was employed at Riverside Toyota.
His greatest passion was for people and ministry. He loved the outdoors, was an avid hunter, fisherman and sportsman. Mike was the chaplain for the Michigan State Police Post in Gladstone, since 2003.
Among survivors include his wife, Pamela of Escanaba; son, Rev. Tim (Ashley) Engelsman of Fremont, Mich.; daughter, Patti (Ryan Nielsen) Engelsman of Rockford, Mich.; his parents, Dale and Loretta of Allendale, Mich.; brothers and sisters, Barb (Jose') Cantu of Jenison, Mich., David (Mary) Engelsman of Sparta, Mich., Marcia (Jeff) Benson of Grand Manan of New Brunswick, Canada, and Tim Engelsman of Allendale, Mich.; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Annette MacCallum of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Brian Thomas, in 1989.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Nov. 27, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the New Life Assembly of God Church, Escanaba. The funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. at the church with Rev. Robert Derheim officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
The burial will be in Lamont, Mich. The Crawford Funeral Homes are assist ing the Engelsman family.
