Alida Jean Coble

GLADSTONE - Alida Jean Coble, 76, passed away Thursday evening, Nov. 22, 2012, at her home in Gladstone surrounded by her loving family.

Jean was born March 13, 1936, in Chatham, Mich., the daughter of Peter and Ellen (Koski) Johnson. She was raised in Chatham and graduated with valedictorian honors from the Eben High School in 1954. On June 1, 1955, Jean was united in marriage to Leonard Coble and together the couple made their home and began their family in Detroit. Jean and Leonard resided in several locations throughout Michigan before moving to Gladstone where they have made their home for the past 26 years. Jean had a deep passion and dedication to the Lord Our Savior. She was a long time member of the Harbor Lights Church of God in Gladstone and enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting and gardening. Jean and Leonard enjoyed 57 wonderful years of marriage together and would often work side by side on many home projects throughout the years.

In addition to her husband, Leonard, Jean is survived by: sons, Steve (Cherie) Coble of Gladstone, Mich., Tim (Gidget) Coble of Hyde, Mich.; daughters, Debra (Tom) Savola of Gladstone, Mich., Cheryl Coble of Gladstone , Mich., Joni (Bob) VanHorn of Escanaba, Mich.; brother, Kenneth ( Beverly) Johnson of Florida; sisters, Gerda Swietzer of Washington, Joyce (Fred) Dube of Washington; grandchildren, Noah, Jonathan, Adam, Shannon, Timothy Jr., Josh and Derek; great-grandchildren, Logan, Trinity and Timothy Apaolo.

Also listed among the surviving family members are many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Ellen; infant daughter, Catherine May; brothers, William and Howard Johnson; sisters, Charlotte Contois and Eleanor Maki.

Jean's family will receive friends on Tuesday from 3:3 to 5:30 p.m. at the Harbor Lights Church of God in Gladstone. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Jean Coble will follow visiting hours at 5:30 p.m. at the Harbor Lights Church of God with Pastor Tony Morrison officiating. Luncheon will follow in the Harbor Lights Fellowship Hall. Jean will be laid to rest in the Chatham Cemetery. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Coble family with arrangements.
