Eino Elmer Kivela

ROCK - Eino Elmer Kivela, 89, of 3958 Circle Drive in Rock, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012 at D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veteran's in Marquette. He was born Aug. 2, 1923 in Neguanee, and was the son of August and Matilda (Tapola) Kivela.

Eino attended school in Rock and later served in W.W. II in the U.S. Navy. He was employed as a school bus driver in Rock, later did construction work and he then worked at Cleveland Cliff as a crane operator until his retirement in 1983.

On Dec. 1, 1945 he married the former Evelyn Valeen. Eino was a member of the Rock American Legion Post No. 559 and was an avid bowler, enjoyed the woods, golfing, wood working and he was an "All Around Fix It Guy." Eino Elmer Kivela is survived by: Wife, Evelyn; four daughters, June (Jerry) Ferris of Plymouth, Minn., Jean (Curt) Garrick of Apple Valley, Minn., Debra (John) Peterson of Maple Grove, Minn., Renee (Jamie) Depuydt of Rockford, Mich.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Gladstone. Rock American Legion Military Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services celebrating the life of Eino Elmer Kivela will be held immediately following the military rites at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jonathan Schmidt officiating. A luncheon will be served following the funeral services at the Faith Lutheran Church in Rock. Memorials can be directed to the Rock Senior Center. Envelopes will be available at the Anderson Funeral Home.
