ESCANABA - Voters have elected Democratic incumbent Tom Sabor over Republican challenger Rick Micheau in the race for Delta County treasurer by a vote of 11,195 to 6,076, according to the unofficial election results.

Sabor has filled the treasurer position since January 2012, after being selected by a three-person committee last year to fill the remaining term of former treasurer Sandra Buckland, who retired in December 2011.

"I want to thank the residents of Delta County for giving me their vote of confidence," said Sabor, on being elected. "I hope I live up to their expectations."

Sabor thanked all those who supported him during his campaign and said he faced some worthy opponents in both the general and primary elections.

"I had a lot of support from everybody and now I can look forward to doing the job," he said. "I enjoy doing the job and I look forward to continue doing it."
