Class D volleyball: Broncos, Nordics set for showdown

HARRIS After coming out on top in a five-round battle against Carney-Nadeau Wednesday, the Bark River-Harris Broncos host the North Dickinson Nordics Saturday at 1 p.m. to decide the winner of the Class D district 126 volleyball tournament.

The Broncos have not won a district championship since 2005, and they are more than ready to add another mark on the BR-H volleyball banner.

"It would be great. The girls would just go crazy over it," said coach John Jorasz. "They've been working very hard throughout the season to get here. This would be great for the players, the school, and myself."

According to Jorasz, the regular season is one thing, while games at this level are an entirely different story, and require a different approach.

"In the tournament setting, all the teams have an extra push on them," he said.

Winning the district will be no small order, as the Nordics have been on a roll at the end of the season that has unquestionably continued over into the districts. Having dispatched the North Central Jets and Mid Peninsula Wolverines with back-to-back sweeps in this tournament, North Dickinson is coming into this championship game with full force.

Regardless of that fact, if the Broncos come prepared, Jorasz is confident in their ability to match up against this team.

"If the girls show up ready to play, it will be a really good game to watch," he said. "They had a very off night (on Wednesday), and if we continue to play like that, we are going to have some trouble. But all in all, we are capable of playing volleyball that can compete.

"If we show up ready to play, it's going to be a good game that could turn out to be anyone's game."
