Police arrest two for burglary

Men face charges in separate crimes

MANISTIQUE - Two Manistique men face multiple charges in two separate burglaries over the last two months, according to Manistique Public Safety.

A press release from Public Safety said Aaron Elmer Baker III, 44, of Manistique, was arrested on Oct. 19 in connection to the Oct. 14 home burglary and theft of a safe from a residence on Arbutus Avenue in Manistique. Baker was arraigned in 93rd District Court on Oct. 24 and was formally charged with the following: first degree home invasion with intent to commit larceny, a 20-year felony; safe breaking, which carries a maximum punishment of life in prison; larceny in a building, a four-year felony; and possession of a controlled substance - morphine; a four-year felony. Baker was also charged with being an habitual offender, fourth offense notice.

The court set bond at $50,000 cash or surety and Baker remains lodged in Schoolcraft County Jail. His preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 7.

In an unrelated incident, Russell Lee St. John, 31, also of Manistique, was arrested on Sept. 23 in connection to a Sept. 12 burglary of a residence on North First Street in Manistique.

St. John was arraigned in District Court on the following charges: second-degree home invasion; a 15-year felony, larceny in a building; a four-year felony, and possession of a controlled substance less than 25 grams for the schedule 2 substance Opana ER, a four-year felony. St. John was also charged with being an habitual offender, fourth offense notice. His bond has been set at $50,000 cash or surety and he remains lodged in the Schoolcraft County Jail. St. John has waived his preliminary hearing in district court and was bound over to circuit court for disposition.
