ROCK - Martha Milkowski, 97, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, Oct. 28, 2012, at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.
Martha was born Sept. 7, 1915, in Rock, the daughter of Samuel and Saara (Narkio) Manty. She was raised in Rock and attended the North Rock Country School. Martha was united in marriage to William "Bill" Milkowski, in Chicago, Ill. In 1957, Martha and Bill moved to Marquette where they resided until relocating to Rock in 1970. Bill preceded Martha in death in April of 2003.
In 1993, Martha moved to Escanaba where she spent the remainder of her life. Martha's hobbies included gardening, reading, cooking, completing puzzles and playing "Scrabble." In addition, she was a cat lover and a member of the Christian Science Church for many years. She will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her son, Melvin; grandsons, Terry (Shannon) Manty and Robert (Theresa) Manty; great-grandson, Nicholas Manty; sisters, Vivian Laituri and Elsie Helstein; daughter-in-law, Marianne Milkowski. Also surviving are several loving nieces and nephews.
Her parents, Samuel and Saara; her husband, William; son, John Milkowski; sister, Ellen Kallioinen; and brothers, Toivo and Reino Manty; preceded her in death.
Martha's family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services will follow visitation at 2 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home with a social gathering immediately following at the Oaks Restaurant in Gladstone. Martha will be laid to rest in the Rock Cemetery.
