GLADSTONE - Robert "Bob" R. Deiter Sr., 80, Gladstone, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at Christian Park Healthcare Center in Escanaba.
He was born on July 7, 1932, in Bark River, the son of the late Jesse and Daisy (Burr) Deiter. On Nov. 17, 1954, he married the former Dahlia Baker in Oklahoma.
Bob served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1961, spending about two years in Korea.
Amongst some of his different jobs, he worked mostly at Harnischfeger in Escanaba. Bob was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing and working with wood.
He is survived by his wife, five children, Grace Deiter, Irene (Howard) Rose, Joyce (Herman) Cunningham, Robert R. Deiter Jr. and Connie Lynn (Peter) Bassett; two brothers, Richard and Donald (Cindy) Deiter; one sister, Pearl Allard; six grandchildren, Misty, Jason, Angela, Greg, Jenna and Tristin; two great-grandchildren, Dillon and Autumn; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Edmond and Carl Deiter; and one sister, Ethel Miron.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the Allo Coolman Funeral Home in Escanaba. Delta County Veterans Council rites will follow visitation at 2 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday to celebrate the life of Robert R. Deiter Sr. Burial will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
