ESCANABA - Jeanette M. (LaFleur) Veldman, 93, of Escanaba, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at the Sunny View Assisted Living Center in Flat Rock, where she currently was residing.
Jeanette was born April 29, 1919, in Escanaba, the daughter of Charles F. and Vina (Ouimette) Guay.
Jeanette was united in marriage to Frederick J. LaFleur in July of 1941 and he preceded her in death in 1988. She married Francis "Earl" Veldman in 1990, and he preceded her in death in 2009.

Jeanette worked all of her life starting as a clerk at S.S. Kresge from 1936 to 1939, and at Michigan Bell for 20 years as an operator. She later worked at Sears until her retirement.
Jeanette was very active at all functions, especially bingo night at St. Patrick's Church and Holy Name High School Booster Club. Jeanette was a very positive person, with loads of energy. She would always greet you with a contagious smile, and call you either "Sweetie" or "Honey Bunch" as an introduction. She was very proud that she went back to school and graduated with her son, Rick, in 1978 from Escanaba High School.
Survivors include: sister, Lorraine LeGault; sons, Michael (Judy) LaFleur and Richard (Theresa) LaFleur both of Gladstone; daughters, Pat Wood and special friend Carl Tisone of Gahanna, Ohio and Christine (Bill) Mokris of Gahanna, Ohio; special friend Shirley Frick, and very special caretakers Gary and Julie Sexton; stepchildren Edith (Paul) Klieman, Walter (Polly) Veldman and Francis (Eileen) Veldman; grandchildren, Michelle (Mitch) Taylor, Kristy (Don) Alimenti , Tim (Toni Nigrelli) LaFleur, Cheryl (Roger) Spain, Michael Wood, Jennifer Foulk, Nicole Foulk and Shawna LaFleur; great-grandchildren, Hunter Taylor, Kendall Taylor, Amelia Alimenti, Taylor Wood and Emma Foulk.
In addition to her parents and husbands, her brother, Francis Guay and sister Verna Guay, preceded Jeanette in death.
Jeanette's family will receive friends on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Flat Rock. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon with Rev. Fr. Jose Maramattam officiating. Luncheon will follow in the Fr. Matt Parish Hall.
