ESCANABA - An Escanaba man pleaded guilty in court Thursday to attempted felonious assault in connection with a fight involving a baseball bat last month in Escanaba.

During a plea hearing in Delta County Circuit Court, Shawn David LeClaire, 35, admitted to swinging a baseball bat at another man on Sept. 29, 2012.

According to Escanaba Public Safety, police were dispatched to two people fighting at 10:18 a.m. on the 100 block of North 11th Street. During an argument, LeClaire swung a bat at a 33-year-old man who fended off the blow with a bicycle, said police. The victim was not injured.

LeClaire was arrested on one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, also known as felonious assault. The four-year felony and a habitual offense notice were dismissed Thursday in exchange for the guilty plea to attempted assault with a dangerous weapon.

LeClaire is scheduled to be sentenced in circuit court on Nov. 30. He remains lodged in the county jail.
