HYDE - An 80-year-old Hyde man is hospitalized at a Wisconsin burn center, where he is recovering from injuries suffered when a fire in a barrel flared up at him nearly a week ago.

Albert Lippens, of 2788 14th Road in Hyde, was tending a fire in a burn barrel when the fire blew up at him and burned his upper body on Tuesday, according to his brother, Rene Lippens of Escanaba.

After putting the fire out, Albert was able to walk to a nearby warehouse where others came to his aid and brought him to OSF St. Francis Hospital, said his brother. He was transported to Columbia St. Mary's Regional Burn Center in Milwaukee where he is recovering from mostly second-degree burns and some third-degree burns, said Rene Lippens.
