Three Eskymos named to all-GNC team

Gladstone lineman Strom selected on defensive team

October 22, 2012
Daily Press

ESCANABA - Escanaba Eskymos quarterback Dave Falish had big shoes to fill as he took the helm for his senior year. It was a position left vacated by all-state quarterback and school record holder Austin Young.

Falish answered the call though and was rewarded for his efforts by being named co-offensive player of the year in the Great Nothern Conference along with Kingsford running back Reed Larson.

Falish racked up nearly 2,000 yards of total offense (1,925) this season, gaining nearly 1,300 yards on the ground and scoring 24 total touchdowns. He also made the team as a defensive back where he had six pass breakups, over 48 tackles and two interceptions, including a 96-yard touchdown runback.

Also making the team for Escanaba was lineman Dave Fix who protected Falish all season as well as Austin Young the season prior. He didn't allow a sack all season and compiled well over 30 pancakes.

On defense, Escanaba linebacker Casey Deshambo was honored. Deshambo racked up over 70 tackles this season.

Defensive lineman Steve Strom of Gladstone was named to the team as well.

Kingsford's Hilding Beaudoin was named Defensive Player of the Year and made the team as an offensive lineman and a defensive lineman. Joe Iwanicki of Marquette was named Lineman of the Year and Kingsford's Chris Hofer was Coach of the Year after coaching the Flivvers to an 8-1 record and the GNC conference crown.
