GLADSTONE - The Voice of the Martyrs Regional Conference, "Bound with Them," will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Grace Church in Gladstone. Speakers include: Darcie Gill; a Middle East Ministry Partner; Getaneh Cetaeh, Ethiopia; and Gracia Burnham, missionary in the Philippines.
Burnham and her husband, Martin, were kidnapped by a militant Muslim group on May 27, 2001, and held in captivity for 376 days. Martin Burnham was killed on June 7, 2002 during a rescue attempt by the Philippine Army. Gracia was wounded in the effort.
She is the author of two books relating to her ordeal, "In the Presence of My Enemies" and "To Fly Again."
Cetaeh was arrested by the Communist authorities for preaching in his native Ethiopia. He was tortured, denied food, water and sleep for days during his imprisonment. He eventually escaped and fled the country. Today, he is ministering in East Africa and other countries.
The identity of the Middle East Ministry Partner is not disclosed for security reasons as he travels into and ministers in Iraq, Pakistan and other nations.
Gill has been on staff with VOM for over 14 years and has traveled to China, Sudan, Pakistan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cuba, India, Myanmar, Laos, Bangladesh, Columbia and many other countries.
Doors open at 8 a.m. for registration, resource center, and prayer room. Lunch break is from noon to 1:30 p.m. There is no cost to attend the conference but an offering will be received.
The church is located at 528 28th Street in Gladstone (across the road from the Cameron Elementary School).
