October 17, 2012
Daily Press

ESCANABA - The Northern Lights YMCA Delta Center and Bay College is offering a family event on Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Bay College Campus and at the YMCA facility. The fourth annual Fall Family Festival is being combined with the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Bay de Noc Community College - the Bay Birthday Bash - to form one family event.

The YMCA will be open for community swimming and family activities during the entire time. In addition, families can take part in hayrides and bring home a pumpkin sponsored by Marquette General Health System for carving, all at no cost. Bounce houses, games for prizes, a 50/50 raffle and a concession stand will be available at family friendly prices. Cake and punch will also be available at no charge for the fourth annual family event.

The Bay Birthday Bash offers the community fun and educational activities and entertainment throughout the day. There will be nostalgic carriage rides, public safety vehicles including the sniffing canine, mini info sessions, games, brick breaking and more. Participants can get a picture of themselves as a future Bay College graduate, spin for prizes, tour campus, bring a quart of your water in for testing, get a sneak peek into Windows 8, see world records, make your hair stand up with playful physics, press apple cider and enjoy a day on campus, according to organizers. "This is just a few of the 50 events to celebrate 50 years in the community" according to Kim Carne, executive director of advancement at Bay College. "Please join us, it is a free family event." Lunch will be provided in the caf as well as birthday cake and refreshments throughout campus."

"We're hoping for a great turn out" said Gary Nash, Northern Lights YMCA executive director. "Last year we had approximately 500 people attended and now combining it with the Bay College event we anticipate even more folks turning out for the day."

For more information on the event, contact the YMCA at 789-0005 or contact Kim Carne at Bay College 217-1700.
