TOMS RIVER, N.J. - Mary Lee Wetterau Johnson, 72, of Toms River, N.J., went to be with the Lord Sept. 14, 2012. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family following a brief illness.
Born March 30, 1940, to Lawrence and Lilyan Johnson of Stonington, attended school in the one room Central school in Stonington, then graduated from Rapid River High School as a member of the class of 1958 and was their homecoming queen. She attended Northern Michigan University.
She moved to Chicago where she met John Wetterau and they were married at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid River, June 19, 1965. They moved to Toms River, N.J., in 1976. Mary Lee enjoyed her summers in Stonington visiting with family and friends, celebrating her crown as "Blueberry Queen," reminiscing with RRHS class of '58 alumnus, and inaugurating family functions while watching sunsets from the shores of Little Bay de Noc.

Mary Lee was a member of The Living Word Baptist Church, Beachwood, N.J. She was a loving wife, mother of three, doting grandmother of four, sister, aunt, and good friend; but her nurturing, motherly touch was felt by many. Mary Lee was cherished for her warmth, compassion, tireless work ethic, humility, self-sacrifice, zest for life, and her blueberry picking passion. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Mary Lee was preceded by her parents; recently her sister, Eve Huskisson; and brother-in-law, Joe Young.
Mary Lee is survived by her husband of 47 years, John; son, Paul and his wife Bonnie; son, Larry and his wife Sharon; daughter, Christine and her husband Russ; her brother, Allen; and sister, Jill Johnson; grandchildren, Hannah, Stephen, Leilani, and Kai; several nieces and nephews, aunts, and cousins.
A memorial service is planned at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid River on Oct. 27, 2012, at 2 p.m. followed by a celebration of her life with family and friends.
