ESCANABA - A Cornell man was sentenced to one year in jail Thursday for his role in robbing two campers in Baldwin Township earlier this summer. The judgment was handed down in Delta County Circuit Court.

Guy Henry Burket, 51, of Cornell, was arrested on June 3 after he took money from two men who were camping on private property, according to the Delta County Sheriff Department.

At approximately 5 a.m. on the morning of the incident, deputies responded to a complaint from two Wisconsin men who reported they were assaulted and robbed of money while camping. Burket pleaded guilty to the unarmed robbery last month. In exchange, a habitual offender notice was dismissed.

Judge Stephen Davis gave Burket credit for 116 days already served in jail. He was not placed on probation because he has had a clean record for the past nine years, the judge said. Burket was ordered to pay $598 in fines and costs.

Burket apologized to the court prior to being sentenced.
