ESCANABA - Ruth Yoshiko Rhodes, 80, formerly of Honolulu, Hawaii passed away Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at her daughter Sandy Keepers home in Escanaba, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Oct. 3, 1931, in Wahiawa, Hawaii, and was the daughter of Shinichi and Tameno (Oda) Omoto. Ruth graduated from Roosevelt High School in Honolulu with the class of 1949. Ruth then received her bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of Chicago and later received her master's degree in nursing at the University of Hawaii. Ruth worked as the director of psychiatric nursing at Leahi Hospital in Hawaii, Hawaii State Hospital and finally at Kahi Mohala. Ruth also worked for the Hawaii Government Employment Agency representing nurses and surveyed hospitals for the state of Hawaii. She loved to travel after her retirement and traveled the world with her friends.
Ruth Yoshiko is survived by: daughters, Sandy (John) Keepers of Escanaba and Lydia Liffick of Chicago; sons, Evan (Kaori) Rhodes of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Eric (Jeannette) Rhodes of Honolulu, Hawaii; three grandsons, Matt Liffick, Levi Keepers and John Keepers.
Sunset ocean burial services will be held on Oct. 3 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Family and friends will meet at the Hulu Nalu boathouse at Maunalua Bay at 5 p.m. Oct. 3.
