ESCANABA - Investigation continues into the cause of a fire which resulted in major damage to an apartment building in Escanaba during the weekend, according to Escanaba Public Safety. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters were dispatched at 10:50 p.m. Friday to 823 2nd Ave. S., where part of a two-story apartment complex was engulfed in flames upon their arrival, according to a news release.
Everyone in the building at the time was able to escape from the burning structure without any injuries, said police. Neighbors were also evacuated from nearby homes in the event the fire should spread.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and were able to keep the fire from harming other structures in the area. The apartment complex sustained major damage. Cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
Firefighters were at the scene for more than four hours with mutual aid provided by the Ford River Fire and Rescue. Michigan State Police, Delta County Sheriff Department, and Rampart Emergency Medical Services also assisted.
Homeless tenants were provided shelter assistance by the Red Cross, which also provided refreshments for firefighters at the scene.
