MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP - An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted today on a body that was found Thursday evening in Marquette Township, according to Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post.
Troopers said three female hikers found the body about 50 feet from the water's edge at Wetmore Pond, a bog situated off Marquette County Road 550, roughly seven miles north of downtown Marquette. Police began their investigation at around 6:40 p.m. The body was recovered from the water by the Marquette County Sheriff Department dive team.
A trooper said this morning that the Marquette County medical examiner will conduct an autopsy on the body today at Marquette General Hospital. Until then, authorities are not releasing any other information on the deceased. Other agencies assisting at the scene Thursday were Northern Michigan University Department of Public Safety, Marquette Township Fire Department and MGH ambulance service.
