ESCANABA - An Escanaba man, who pleaded this week to accidentally shooting a man in the face, will be sentenced in Delta County Circuit Court in October.

Andrew Robert Maynard, 27, of Escanaba, pleaded no contest Tuesday to one count of careless discharge of a weapon causing injury or death. The misdemeanor carries a maximum penalty of two years imprisonment or a $2,000 fine.

Maynard was arrested on the night of July 29, following investigation into a shooting incident on the 1500 block of North Lincoln Road.

The 20-year-old victim suffered a gunshot wound to the face. He was taken by ambulance to OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba, then transferred to Marquette General. He has since been released from hospital care, according to Escanaba Public Safety, the investigating agency.

Maynard remains lodged in the county jail in lieu of a $2,500 cash bond. He is scheduled to be sentenced in circuit court Oct. 9.
