Fire threat high

A grass fire, above, broke out in Flat Rock Thursday afternoon while boxes were being burned behind the Northwoods Baptist Church. Escanaba Township firefighters extinguished the blaze, which was fueled by high winds and dry, hot conditions. The DNR urges residents to be cautious with outdoor fires during the Labor Day weekend due to the “very high” fire danger in the region. (Daily Press photo by Jenny Lancour)
