HYDE - John McMahon's family honored him with a surprise 90th birthday party at his home in Hyde on July 1. John was born on Aug. 29, 1922, one of eight children born to Edward and Anna (Posenke) McMahon.
Helping him celebrate this special occasion was his wife, Carol; his seven children, Sue (Dan) Salmon, Barb Mc Mahon, Laura (Dennis) Dittrich, Judy (Terry) Chouniard, Gail (Larry) Kosobucki of Kentucky, John (Darlene) Mc Mahon of Maine, and Patti (Terry) Dittrich; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, neighbors and friends. John was surprised to see all of the out of town relatives and friends that he hadn't seen in a long time.
The out of town guests were: Trenton and Jayden Dittrich of North Carolina; Matt and Melissa Bigelow, Joan Larsen, Jim Makosky and his son, and Doug Salmon and John Palmer, all of Wisconsin; Casey Mc Mahon, Phil and Carrieanne Clausen and their three children, all of Maine; Glenda Mc Mahon and her two granddaughters, Bob and Cheryl Crane, all of Alabama; Nancy Forrester of Virginia; Kevin and Nancy Jeager and their daughter of California, Jayne Braverman and her daughter of Lansing; Howard and June Perryman and Jerry and Mary Makosky and their children, all of Washington; Joe and Sherry Wells and their children, Ruth Sneed, and Steve and Rhonda Grachen and their daughter, all of Illinois; and Mark and Stephanie Makosky and their three children of Ishpeming.

This was a first time visit to the Upper Peninsula for some of the guests.
John was asked what he thought about his party afterwards and he said, "I knew my kids were up to something."
